Harlem Literary Warriors
The legacies of slavery, freedom and racism continuously linger in the pages of history.à African American literature blatantly caters varied stories of experiences of those who had been witnesses of the struggles in the Renaissance time (Fabre and Feith). It was a time when the frustrations, desires, sentiments and everything that had been felt by those who felt that they were being oppressed were established in the form of literary pieces established in publications for the purpose of being heard (McKay and Gates). The lame fact of that certain point of time is that it had been a time of agony and doom for some of those who had their heart on writing.à The oppression and deprivation reached up to the point of not being able to be recognized in the field which they wanted to be a part of (Jones).Blacks were not considered as a part of the society, enjoying the privileges which had been sought by those who believed that they were above their race (Jones).à It felt like they we re hooked on a string like puppets.Zora Neale Hurston UnleashedKnown as a woman of deep interest on anything under the sun with a seminal figure of the vintage Harlem Renaissance; celebrated writer, anthropologist and part-time singer actress, shared her skills in the literary world by writing short stories, essays, novels, plays tackling different subjects aimed in enticing the eyes of the empathic masses (Kaplan). However, her classical works have not been published and produced given such reason that a lot of people in her time were considerably beyond her reach, a reason why here works were not often given credit (Nelson). But fate was not as bad as to how it could have seemed, in the person of Wallace Thurman, she was given the chance to share her masterpieces in literature and aside from that, a deeper sense of connectivity lingered but unfortunately soured which was even published forcefully negative against her in an autobiography (Kaplan).Succession of her worksObscurity swal lowed her being leading to a sad death.à If questions ought to pop out in mind for such confusion on how her works came out in the scene, Alice Walkerââ¬â¢s succession among Hurstonââ¬â¢s works is most likely the most suitable answer (Hurston; Kaplan).Hurstonââ¬â¢s Political RhetoricHurstonââ¬â¢s imperialistic and political stand in her works portrayed an array of incongruous arguments against cultural politics.à She always believed that the cultural populism is a way of energizing a battalion of democracy (Hurston; Nelson).Community based role innovative representations tiled her echelon of praises for the flexibility of her beliefs in political deeds and perceptions.à Her folklore commitment served as driving force in linking to an authoritarian and ethnically catalyst in political idealism (Hurston; Nelson; Kaplan).Genius of the SouthHer style in writing, though often criticized for the fact that it had not been adhering to what was common and desired by the government, portrays a perfect representation of the freedom of the press, one of the rights of a state which was in her time, not given credit to; her collaboration of passionate and zealous words and her ways in revealing language as well as concealing the cores of the soul, ensemble an indulging arena of classical writing (Hurston; McKay and Gates). The oral folklore which consistently fused her rationality and narrating her life story at the same time, an example by which various authors are mimicking nowadays to catch a readerââ¬â¢s attention had been a breakthrough in destabilizing the mishaps of contemporary literature.à Skipping the conventionality to higher form of intellectual skill in scribbling aiming tom entice the flaming emotion of quest for freedom (Fabre and Feith).

Greek or Shakespearean Essay
The essential component to any tragedy, Greek or Shakespearean, is a protagonist with a fatal flaw. In Greek tragedy this is called hamartia. This Latin term translates directly into the word ââ¬Å"flawâ⬠but is usually used to describe an excess of a personality trait ââ¬â virtue or vice. The protagonistââ¬â¢s fatal flaw pushes the the plot and action of the tragedy forward. It is this tragic flaw, which leads to the eventual downfall of the character, his circumstances, and the denouement of the drama. In examining the bulk of the literatureââ¬â¢s protagonists, no other character embodies the essential role of the flawed protagonist like Hamlet. Hamletââ¬â¢s fatal flaw is his idealism. Only once Hamlet overcomes his idealism is he able to seek his revenge. The climax of the play occurs with Hamletââ¬â¢s realization that the world is not as it seems and that he must shrug off his idealistic values and avenge his fatherââ¬â¢s murder Act 3, scene 4. In Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Hamlet, act 3 scene 4, is a pivotal scene within the play. The scene begins in the Queenââ¬â¢s chamber, as Hamlet slams the door open, with sword in hand. They engage in a dialogue of riddles combined with Hamletââ¬â¢s mishandling of the weapon makes the Queen uneasy. Hamlet is upset at the Queen for marrying his fatherââ¬â¢s brother. The Queen screams ââ¬Å"Thou wilt not murder me? Help, ho! â⬠and as Polonius responds, Hamlet promptly shoves his sword into the curtain where Polonius hides and swiftly kills him. Hamlet wonders if it was the King, half hoping that it was Claudius, who Hamlet has been trying to kill the whole play. He fantasies about killing him, in the previous scene, he states ââ¬Å"In thââ¬â¢ incestuous pleasure of his bed. â⬠Hamlet is consumed by the idea of Claudius and Gertrude making love. Once he knows that he only killed Polonius he continues to scold him mother. She responds ââ¬Å"â⬠In thââ¬â¢ incestuous pleasure of his bedâ⬠and Hamlet replies â⬠A bloody deed. Almost as bad, good mother, As kill a king and marry with his brother. â⬠Again Hamlet contrasts the two brothers that Gertrude has become involved with. Hamlet must avenge his fatherââ¬â¢s death. In doing so he must not only kill Claudius but also resurrect his father. He does this by outlining how his fatherââ¬â¢s good qualities compare to his uncleââ¬â¢s bad qualities. Hamlet laments: Look here upon this picture, and on this, The counterfeit presentment of two brothers. See what a grace was seated on this brow, Hyperionââ¬â¢s curls, the front of Jove himself,. . . This was your husband. Look you now what follows. Here is your husband, like a mildewââ¬â¢d ear Blasting his wholesome brother. Hamlet contrasts the two brothers which he claims are completely the opposite. Hamlet believes that Gertrude might has mistaken one for the other. Hamlet continues to verbally assault his mother. Much of what he says is a rephrasing of Hamletââ¬â¢s first solioquy, ââ¬Å"frailty thy name is womanâ⬠as well as Hamlet aggressive behavior toward Ophelia in the nun scene. Act 3, scene 4 is the part of the play when the climax happens. Hamlet must first confront the cause of this murder, Queen Gertrude. It is within in this scene that Hamlet gets his first taste of vengenance and murder when he easily kills Polonius. After this murder, Hamlet decides he can and must kill his fatherââ¬â¢s murderer, Claudius. However, Hamletââ¬â¢s leaves his mother alone because his fatherââ¬â¢s ghost appears and advises Hamlet to ââ¬Å"Leave her to heavenâ⬠. Hamlet respects and loves his father in life and also in death and adheres to the ghostââ¬â¢s advice. Hamletââ¬â¢s goal is to bring back his fatherââ¬â¢s reign not just by pointing out Claudiusââ¬â¢ faults but also by humiliating his mother and her new world to trash. Hamlet continues: Have you eyes? Could you on this fair mountain leave to feed And batten on this moor? Ha, have you eyes? Hamlet is trying to convince his mother give up her new life with Claudius, to find her loyalty to her dead husband, and back to the way things used to be. Hamlet takes the role of ââ¬Å"scourge and minister,â⬠and tells her she can redeem herself from being a whore to being the good wife she used to be. Hamlet advises her to leave Claudius, ââ¬Å"the moorâ⬠and climbs up on her dead husbandââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"mountainâ⬠. Hamlet explains ââ¬Å" throw away the worser partâ⬠of your cleft heart, Hamlet instructs her, ââ¬Å"And live the purer with the other half. â⬠However, Hamlet, as much as he wants to love his mother, can not get past his belief that she is responsible for his fatherââ¬â¢s death. It is important to note that this scene takes place in the Queenââ¬â¢s bedroom. The conversation symbolized Hamlet and Gertrude essentially ââ¬Å"in bedâ⬠together and hints to a sexual relationship. Hamlet speaks like a jealous lover chastising his girlfriend for sleeping with a different man and making their bed ââ¬Å"enseamedâ⬠. The Queen is extremely upset and actually asks Hamlet to help her figure out what to do. At this point when Hamlet should have told her to confess, he urges her to stop her relationship with Claudius, ââ¬Å"Not this, by no means, that I bid you do: Let the bloat king tempt you again to bedâ⬠(Act III, sc iv). It is in the moment that Hamlet allows his emotion to dominate over his intellect that Claudius was killed. He is consumed by the thoughts of his fatherââ¬â¢s demise and is haunted by the knowledge that his fatherââ¬â¢s soul will not be able to rest until his death is avenged. Hamlet willfully concludes, ââ¬Å"My thoughts be bloody or be nothing worthâ⬠(Act IV sc iv). It is then that Hamlet finally had the ability to suppress his idealistic nature, and do what is right. The murder is not a well planned scheme and occurs in the heat of the moment. Hamlet, after the murder of Claudius never once wavers in his decision. He has done what is right and believes that ââ¬Å"There is a special providence in the fall of a sparrowâ⬠(Act V sc ii). Hamlet is able to do anything but take vengeance upon the man who did away with his father and has taken his fatherââ¬â¢s place with his mother. The pain which should have caused him to take immediate revenge was replaced by pity for himself. It is Hamletââ¬â¢s idealistic nature that creates the ultimate theme and driving force behind all the rising action, falling action, and resolution of this tragedy as well as the death of his mother. The way in which Hamlet views his mother, father, and Claudius is finally revealed in Act 3, scene 4. Once Hamlet is able to be honest about his feelings, he is able to finally seek revenge for his fatherââ¬â¢s murder. This scene is pivotal to denouement of the play and essential to Hamletââ¬â¢s transformation from a boy to man who embodies the important qualities which were cherished and expect by an Elizabethan audiences.
First Opium War Essay
In 1899, right after the First Opium War, China was under the control of European powers and Japan, Qing Dynasty was so weak that hardly could defeat these powers. Each of these powers found out that China was a country which owned variety of resource. Therefore, all of them wanted to trade with China to earn more benefit and robbed various parts of coastal places, unfold Chinese territorial and Administrative integrity and would not interfere with the free use of the treaty ports within their spheres of inference in China. John Hay, the private secretary to Abraham Lincoln, the person who proposed the Open Door Policy. At that time, the United States was just finished the invasion of Philippine with Spanish and turned to China. They also had great interest in China and found out that China was the biggest market in the whole world. The Open Door Policy was declared base on this situation. Hay said,ââ¬Å"Earnestly desirous to remove any cause of irritation and to ensure at the same time to the commerce of all nations in Chinaâ⬠¦shall enjoy perfect equality of treatment for their commerce and navigation within such spheres.â⬠The purpose of writing the document was to reduce the power countries had gained from their spheres of influence. The United States had no spheres of influence in China because it had just recently taken interest in Asia. Therefore, John Hay sought to prevent other countries from having more power than the United States. Each power claimed exclusive privileges of investment, and other powers seek to monopolize the trade as well. As the Open Door Policy took into action, each power should have to follow the rule 1. Each great power should maintain free access to a treaty port or to any other vested interest within its sphere. 2. Only the Chinese government should collect taxes on trade. 3. No great power having a sphere should be granted exemptions from paying harbor dues or railroad charges. This policy which showed above has obviously changed both China and the United States. From the United States, they found the biggest market in the whole world which is China. Before America was unable to trade with China and didnââ¬â¢t have time to care about China. No later than they defeated Spain in Philippine. They turned their sight to China, a huge market for trade which had been untapped and allowed America to gain a financial foothold in China. This decision can give them earn the most benefit. United States became Chinaââ¬â¢s largest partner. Therefore, although the tax they need to pay was as the same as all the other powers, they occupied the most market of China, which means they were the largest earner between China and European power. By the way, it was the first time for the United States to expend their market to Asia. It has laid a good foundation for the commercial intercourse between America and China several decades later. On the other hand, this policy has changed China a lot, even much more than America. During that period China was nominally controlled by Qing Dynasty, but actually almost half land of China was invaded by foreign country and divided by France, German, British, Italy, Russia, Japan, and the United States, we call these eight countries as Eight-Power Alliance. Anyway, China was a country with half colonization and half feudalism. Each power was interested in the huge benefit in China. But they all had a fear with others. None of them dared to become the first. As the Open Door Policy proposed by America, the entire problem has been solved. Everyone got the same right to trade with China and had to pay the tax. It looks like everyone received what they want except China. However, just the opposite, China has occupied a huge change during this period. First, it has increased the trade of China and help to develop the economics of China. After the First Opium War, that was the weakest period of China. Drug has poisoned this huge country suffer from paining. Open Door Policy gave China a chance to develop them. Second, this policy gave China to advocate an impartial system of taxation set up a system of equal trading rights, which also helped to prevent European Power and Japan divided China into separate colonies, also intended to lower taxes and gave America an equal chance to trade with China. Third, the United States was the biggest partner effectively stopped countries from colonizing China; this helped to keep China a united, sovereign nation. In recent years, China has developed much faster than before. In 1978, the president Deng Xiaoping took office, China formally cooperated with America. It can be said as America helped to increase Chinaââ¬â¢s economic. The development of trade gives both China and America pretty much benefit. Finally, the Open Door Policy is the most important policy during the whole that period. Without that policy, maybe China would be divided into several parts. Open Door Policy give America more benefit, but actually the biggest earner is China.

American women's history - Essay Example Moral control, high wages and more interesting lifestyle than that of the farms attracted them. However, the factory environment had harsh working conditions, which put their lives at great risk. They also worked for long hours. Later, the great depression that took place between 1929 and 1939 led to the lowering of the womenââ¬â¢s wages, which made them to boycott the factories. They eventually managed to obtain reasonable wages thus maintaining their jobs. However, the poor working conditions persisted and they felt insecure because there were other women who strived for the same job and were even willing to receive lower wages. Among these women, there were two types of feminism. First type of feminism consisted of women who greatly cared about the handicaps and wrongs under which women suffered and who admitted the equal significance of other social injustices. They recognized the interrelationship between women question with other great questions. Anderson says that this was a perfectly good kind of feminism. The second type of feminism put the woman question first and above all other issues. To them, what was done with womens problems solely determined the solution of all others. This group insisted upon the rights of a woman no matter what happened to other rights. The groups were similar in that they felt societys discrimination upon women both in the past and presently. However, they differed in their attitude toward the society that is, in their sense of proportion. There was also the more practical woman who was more moderate, saw and worked with facts. Lastly, there were the theorists who had a single abstract principle in mind, ignored facts persistently, and clung to abstractions devotedly. Feminists objected the labor laws as in as far as jobs were concerned; they put women on a different legal basis from men. They therefore fought for industrial equality. Labor laws limited

Captivity Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Captivity - Essay Example luential individual or stratum upon the weak and helpless, so that the powerful could exploit the riches, belongs, talent, energies or qualities of the captive for his own purpose. As it has often been observed that the highly qualified professionals are confined to some specific task or job by the rich entrepreneur in the name of financial stability. Similarly, animals are made captive and confined into cages and snares for the entertainment of humans. But captivity is not restrained to encaging or physical confinement only. Rather, there are multiple forms of imprisonment and captivity. Renowned French philosopher of 18th century Jean Jacques Rousseau once said that man was born free, but everywhere he is in chains. The quote maintains depth of oceans in it due to the fact that man undergoes various kinds of captivities, which serve as great hurdles on his way to achieve his ultimate destination in this world as well as in the world Hereinafter. Hence, humans are captives of social norms, cultural traditions, historically existing conventions, religious beliefs, financial problems and statutes of prevailing law, and are bound to adapt their lives accordingly on the basis of all such norms, mores, traditions, beliefs and laws. Not only this that man is bound in the chains inflicted by others upon him, but also he is slave to his own wishes and desires, which make him their captive in the very sense and definition of the term. It is therefore it is aptly viewed that man is the captive of his own body. Hunger and thirst are basic human instincts and needs, without whi ch body stops working properly. If an individual is not offered bread for few hours only, he will start turning weak and fragile. Consequently, he becomes irritated and strives to get the same either in peaceful manners or by applying force. It brings uncertainty, disorder, chaos and turmoil in society. But it proves the very fact that man is captive of his body. Extraordinary change in climate, chilly

International Marketing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
International Marketing - Essay Example 63-65, 1996). Yet, the fundamental question remains and revolves around the reason of why shall the company use the services of consultants for the same and why the internal talent be utilized for the same. There are many reasons in this regard. Firstly, strategy building is a difficult and painful exercise since it requires making hard and avoidable choices. In fact, strategy builders have to get out of their comfort zones and take decisions to undertake discussions, which they would have not even imagined under normal circumstances. It has been an observation (Porter, pp. 69-74, 1996) that at times, it becomes extremely difficult for the company to make those choices considering the human and emotional constraints. This also explains why many Chinese and Japanese companies avoid having clear and well-defined strategies since the process of the same would require them to go against their culture of collectivism, uncertainty avoidance and achieving consensus for every decision (OMahoney, pp. 64-6 9, 2010). Quite understandably, when managers are making the strategies, there is a high probability that the emotional element would get into the process to make it more biased. Many companies successfully develop good strategies but fail to execute them; however, it would be a complete disaster if the company designs a biased and mediocre strategy and then executes it with all possible energies (Curnow & Reuvid, pp. 79-84, 2003). Furthermore, over the years, the field of strategic management has developed to great limits. New complexities, inventions, and use of latest tools, ever-changing industry scenario, new elements and dynamics and others have made it even more complex for any nonprofessional or even an average middle manager to involve himself in the process of strategic management and promise great results. Management consultants bring with themselves vast experience in their fields of helping companies making turnarounds and taking otherwise

Personal Application of Argyris and Schons Theories of Action Statement
Application of Argyris and Schons Theories of Action - Personal Statement Example Top performers were given cash incentives and were automatically in the running for any supervisory post that would be made available. This resulted in a hyper-competitive environment where it was hard to make true friends because everyone was so focused on the work. One major conflict that stood out for me was when I received a citation from top management for closing the most number of cases during the 1st quarter of the year.. My manager advised me that they were planning on making me the new supervisor for a new division they were establishing, largely in part to my consistent performance. This development resulted in a completely unexplainable weirdness between myself and my teammates. I knew that they were vying for the same post, but I was aghast that some seemed extremely bitter. I could not comprehend why they won't just be happy for me. We were all putting in the same hours, and they knew that I was really putting a lot into my work. They were working their shifts and meeting their targets, but they weren't willing to make that extra push needed to make you the best .If they met the goal of twenty cases a day, I would strive for thirty. That's the attitude I brought, and at the time I could not understand why they took it against me. A nd to think these are the people I had dubbed "my friends from work", the people you have lunch with and share a drink with after hours. Looking back, Looking back, it seems that my former peers had a convoluted sense of entitlement going on for them. Most of them had been in the business far longer than I had, and some were highly regarded financial professionals pirated from other banks. As I reflect on what had happened, it was apparent that their unstated feeling of superiority against me was emanating from the fact that they considered themselves senior to me. In terms of office dynamics, my promotion ahead of them terribly undermined the quality of their output, and did not bode too well for their ego. To have a young upstart such as myself grab the position that they were all angling for probably was too much for them to handle, and in turn they took it out on me. Some even stopped talking to me altogether, which I thought was completely unprofessional. Looking back at our reading, I would have taken more time to consider the governing variables which prevailed at my office at the time. Putting seniority, ego, and career advancement into consideration, everyone was content and "happy". These variables were within acceptable bounds as their egos were not being disparaged. The crucial action that triggered the imbalance was my promotion. And in order to retain some sort of face-saving control within their "realm" , their action strategy was to give me the cold shoulder and make my office life as uncomfortable as it could possibly be. Leveraging off my experience, I learned that in an office setting you simply can't expect people to be happy for you when you get promoted ahead of them. They all have their own hopes, dreams, and motivations, and you cannot expect them to be happy when you achieve something that they had also set their eyes on. Taking these into consideration, a good action strategy would be first to keep office relationships completely professional, with thorough boundaries set. The less personal your interaction is, the easier it would be if you get promoted
The Reluctant Workers Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
The Reluctant Workers - Essay Example In any institution, there must be administrators who oversee day-to-day operations of the organizations and ensuring that things go on smoothly. Therefore, administrators perform very useful roles by ensuring that institutions achieve set goals. In the case study, Aston claims that the accounting department manager does not want an employee in that section to shift to project management section (Kerzner, 2010). This is despite confession of the employee of his interest in project management. The manager seems interested in achieving his departmental goals at the expense of the overall goal for the company. Thus, the boss of the worker who had interest in project management kills his interest and dream, and this might lower morale and appreciation of the employee. There is also poor communication between the workers and the managers. Moreover, Phil Davis, the director of project management seems not interested in solving issues raised by the project manager, and this constitutes poor administration (Kerzner, 2010). Therefore, effective administration and communication is vital for the success of any organization.... Proper planning Planning entails the process of thinking as well as organizing activities necessary for the achievement of a given goal. Proper planning is required in carrying out and implementing activities that lead to the attainment of the goal. In the case study of reluctant workers, planning is a challenge. For instance, Aston asserts that in the week that the test was scheduled, some departments and individual workers planned different activities. The customerââ¬â¢s t op management planned on flying specifically for firsthand observations. Moreover, two members of his team had planned program vacation for the week and could not participate in the test (Kerzner, 2010). The scenario clearly indicates poor planning of events and activities in the company. Poor planning can lead to underachievement of the set goals and targets. 2 .Analyze the way in which Tim Aston, the young project manager, was exercising his skills with respect to his project staff and the functional managers. Discuss Tim Aston's effectiveness in light of the three core skills you identified. The younger citizens in their mid thirties and their seniors are normally prepared to buy branded jewellery. The aim of branding is to establish a differentiated and considerable presence in the marketplace so that it can retain and attract faithful and loyal customers. Branding is also a technique in establishing a significant business asset, which is nothing but an excellent reputation. Policy and Practice In the Education of Bilingual Children Essay
Policy and Practice In the Education of Bilingual Children - Essay Example Long-term planning for language use and literacy should use official curricula, such as the Early Years Foundation Stage in England, as its launching pad, and there is no need for other laborious documentation. Schemes of work and long-term commitment to set repeated topics are more likely to stifle creativity than be a useful structure for planning. The long-term aim for teachers is to encourage children to build her or his language in their own unique way and leave the Foundation Stage excited and enthusiastic about their learning. Long-term planning for language can be enhanced by an agreed list of core books and rhymes. This will provide a store of high-quality texts that children will get to know well during their time in setting. These texts can be developed with double language copies and big books, with story snacks, story props and puppets to extend children's experiences. Core books and their props provide a strong basis for all children to develop confidence in their langu age through the visual support. Clear illustrations and repetitive texts are particularly supportive for bilingual children and even for multilingual children. Tower Hamlets Primary School teachers should use various strategies to provide a nurturing environment. Sensitive grouping of children can ensure that there is a supportive friend who will model language for the bilingual children to copy. Their friend can also guide them through the various social and cultural situations that they may find puzzling. Teachers can ensure that bilingual children are placed in a position so that they can hear clearly, can observe any accompanying gestures and can always see any book illustrations or visual material that is supporting the... This essay stresses that all children have an entitlement to benefit from the Early Years Foundation Stage, and context is a key factor in helping bilingual children learns sufficient English to enable them to do so. Scaffolding language provides a supportive structure for them. First-hand experiences provide the context and the motivation for children to learn the language in a way that is meaningful to them. They gain in confidence and make their first tentative steps in English. Their first words are added to by staff who provide a rich commentary on the childrenââ¬â¢s play and learning activities. This report makes a conclusion that it is pertinent to note that all young children have considerable adjustment to make when they first encounter formal schooling. The observations of this report have indicated that teachers involved depicted a rapid adjustment to school. Although variations were apparent from one teacher to another. overall. teachersââ¬Ë ratings of the children tended to favor the bilingual group. The teachers themselves had to adjust to working within the framework of the research design but nevertheless. their observations support the practicability of a bilingual curriculum. Consideration should be given to the structure of curriculum experience for bilingual pupils. Particularly with regard to the probable interaction between languages in the children's experience. Perceptions of bilingual education varies considerably among staff in schools. The government also should support teachers by establishing systems in schools that will favor bilingual children.

Instructional Objectives Essay Example for Free
Instructional Objectives Essay Instructional objectives may also be called performance objectives, behavioural objectives, or simply objectives. All of these terms are used interchangeably. Objectives are specific, outcome based, measurable, and describe the learners behaviour after instruction. Instructional objectives serve as goals that teachers have set in the achievement of a greater goal. They also tell students what is expected of them. Instructional objectives make definite the direction in which teaching leads and become the focus of instruction, not only for the teachers, but also for the students. Without instructional objectives teaching is comparable to a fallen leaf whose destination is dependent on the will of the wind. Without instructional objectives, teachers will have nothing to follow in order to achieve what it should achieve. A well-written objective should meet the following criteria; describe a learning outcome, be student oriented, be observable or describe an observable product. A well-written objective should describe a learning outcome. It should not describe a learning activity. Learning activities are important in planning and guiding instruction but they are not to be confused with instructional objectives. A student-oriented objective focuses on the learner, not on the teacher. It describes what the learner will be expected to be able to do. It should not describe a teacher activity. It may be helpful to both the teacher and the student to know what the teacher is going to do but teacher activities are also not to be confused with instructional objectives. If an instructional objective is not observable, it leads to unclear expectations and it will be difficult to determine whether or not it had been reached. The key to writing observable objectives is to use verbs that are observable and lead to a well defined product of the action implied by that verb. Verbs such as to know, to understand, to enjoy, to appreciate, to realize, and to value are vague and not observable. Verbs such as to identify, to list, to select, to compute, to predict, and to analyze are explicit and describe observable actions or actions that lead to observable products. For an instruction to be useful, an objective must not only be well written but it also must meet the following criteria: be sequentially appropriate, be attainable within a reasonable amount of time, be developmentally appropriate. For an objective to be sequentially appropriate it must occur in an appropriate place in the instructional sequence. All prerequisite objectives must already have been attained. Nothing thwarts the learning process more than having learners trying to accomplish an objective before they have learned the necessary prerequisites. This is why continuous assessment of student progress is so important. A useful objective is attainable within a reasonable time. If an instructional objective takes students an inordinately long time to accomplish, it is either sequentially inappropriate or it is too broad, relying on the accomplishment of several outcomes or skills rather than a single outcome or skill. An objective should set expectations for a single learning outcome and not a cluster of them. Instructional objectives are often classified according to the kind or level of learning that is required in order to reach them. There are numerous taxonomies of instructional objectives; the most common taxonomy was developed by Benjamin Bloom and his colleagues. The first level of the taxonomy divides objectives into three categories: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. Simply put, cognitive objectives focus on the mind; affective objectives focus on emotions or affect; and psychomotor objectives focus on the body. Cognitive objectives call for outcomes of mental activity such as memorizing, reading, problem solving, analyzing, synthesizing, and drawing conclusions. Bloom and others further categorize cognitive objectives into various levels from the simplest cognitive tasks to the most complex cognitive task. These categories can be helpful when trying to order objectives so they are sequentially appropriate. This helps to insure that prerequisite outcomes are accomplished first. Affective objectives focus on emotions. Whenever a person seeks to learn to react in an appropriate way emotionally, there is some thinking going on. What distinguishes affective objectives from cognitive objectives is the fact that the goal of affective objectives is some kind of affective behavior or the product of an affect (e. g. , an attitude). The goal of cognitive objectives, on the other hand, is some kind of cognitive response or the product of a cognitive response (e. g. , a problem solved). Psychomotor objectives focus on the body and the goal of these objectives is the control or manipulation of the muscular skeletal system or some part of it (e. g. , dancing, writing, tumbling, passing a ball, and drawing). All skills requiring fine or gross motor coordination fall into the psychomotor category. To learn a motor skill requires some cognition. However, the ultimate goal is not the cognitive aspects of the skill such as memorizing the steps to take. The ultimate goal is the control of muscles or muscle groups. The following are the importance of instructional objectives in teaching I. C. T Firstly, Instructional objectives are of immense significance in todayââ¬â¢s education process. They provide organizers of the process with the opportunity to delve into learners mind and know where they are heading. Instructional objectives provide teachers the opportunity to design proper assessment procedure through tests and evaluation. Students know what they are supposed to do, use before or after a particular class. Instructional objectives also help trace the amount of change that has been brought about in a student. It gives a definite direction to the whole teaching-learning and evaluation process of a particular class in classroom situations. It also helps both the teacher as well as students in determining particular educational goals and enables them to focus their attention on specific learning activities to achieve those goals. Through instructional objectives ââ¬â the organizers of educational process can determine the resources, course materials, curricular and co-curricular activities, relevant contents and references etc. which are so vital to make the process functional. Instructional objectives also lead the teacher into discovering the best learning situations, strength and weaknesses of the prevalent learning process, level of growth and development of learners through a pre-determined evaluation process. In short, instructional objectives help in monitoring and evaluating the whole educational process in minute details.

Comparison of US and Iraq Constitutions
Comparison of US and Iraq Constitutions A constitution can be defined as a laid down rules for the government which are time and again codified as a form of written manuscript that spells out and confines the functions and ability to exercise force of a political party (power). In the case of countries and sovereign regions of federal states the phrase refers exclusively to a constitution defining the core principles of politics, and instituting the configuration, procedures, (sociology)>powers and duties, of a government. Most constitutions guarantee rights to the people by limiting the governments own reach. We will be comparing and contrasting the American constitution against the Iraqi constitution. Both constitutions are codified. Under the patronage of a British military occupation in 1925, Iraqis first constitution entered into force which then formed a monarchy which remained in effect until in 1958, the revolution established a republic. Interim constitutions have been adopted over the years but a referendum t hat took place in 2005 approved the constitution currently being used by Iraqis. On the other hand the American constitution is considered foundation and basis of the legal right to exercise power over another (authority) essential to the existence of the United States of America and the federal government of the United States. It grants the framework for the institute of the United States government and for the rapport of the federal government to the states, to citizens, and to all people within the United States. Both constitutions empathize on democracy. The constitutions seek to protect the dignity and liberty of man. The constitutions forbid any kind of emotional, psychological, or physical torture. Both constitutions are mindful of the welfare and security of its people despite the freedom of communication the constitutions provide that the freedom can be breached by a judicial decision whenever it is a matter of national security. These affect the individual rights of the citizen. There is also freedom of worship in the constitutions although the Iraq constitution further states that Islam is the official language. According to the Iraqi constitution section three chapter articles 49 the council of representatives shall be elected and shall consist of a number of members at a ratio of one member per 100,000 Iraqi persons. These representatives shall be elected by a direct secret general ballot. The members are elected for a term of 4 years. The president is elected by the council of representatives by a two-thirds majority and is limited to 2 terms in office with a span of 4years in 1 term. The president of Iraq has two deputies with whom they form a presidency council. The presidency council appoints the prime minister of Iraq and cabinet ministers who must be approved by assembly. There should be two thirds majority for a president to be elected. The American constitution states that the president has all the executive power vested on him the president is the chief diplomat and the commander in chief of the armed forces. For a maximum of two four-year terms the president and vice-president ar e elected as running mates by the Electoral College for which each single state is allocated a number of seats based on its representation on the senate and House of Representatives whose members of both the houses are elected by the Americans. Ãâà The vice-president is second highest executive officer of the government. The vice-president is only allowed to vote in the senate to break a vote which is tied. The chief executive officer of the United States is the Secretary of State. The Secretary of state is appointed by the president and is the third highest ranking member of the government and they answer directly to the president. In the USA constitution the Supreme Court is the highest court of the land. The court is responsible for matters dealing with state disputes, and interpreting the constitution of the USA and overrules some legislations therefore creating precedents for future reference. The supreme and lower court justices are elected by the people while the rest ar e appointed since they are in the federal government. The Iraqi constitution provides that local court judges are appointed by the local authority, while the federal government appoints the supreme judges. Islam is also considered a source of legislation and the laws of administration circumscribe Shariah laws U.S. citizens have almost universal suffrage from the age of 18. The state governments have the utmost impact over most Americansââ¬â¢ day to day lives. The Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution warranties their broad-spectrum plenary powers, against the limited spell out powers possessed by the federal government; as a result, they handle the bulk of the issues most pertinent for most individuals within their jurisdiction. The governor is the highest elected official at each state is the governor. There is also an elected state legislature in each state except Nebraska (bicameralism), whose members represent the state voters. The town, city, or county boards are the institutions responsible for local governments. The legislature in each state should stipulate the time manner and places of holding elections for senators and representatives. Iraq has a unicameral legislature The president of the United Sates receives compensation, which may not be increased or decreased during their time in office; for being the president. Qualification for presidency in the United States include; a natural born citizen U. S. A, at least 35 years of age and have resided in the states for 14 years. The representatives must be of an age of 25 or above, and citizens of the land for a minimum of 7 years and an inhabitant of the state they are elected. The senators must be 30years and have been citizens of that states for 9 years and must be inhabitants of the state at the time. The amendments as provided by the constitution of the United States may be approved in the following ways: by special convention from congress, ratified by two-thirds of both houses and sent for approval to the states, or by Two-thirds of the state legislatures applying to Congress for a constitutional caucus to consider amendments, which are then sent for approval to the states. Any amendments to the Iraqi constitution would have to be approved by a similar referendum to the one that had approved it originally. Vacancies are to be filled by writs of election issued by the executive authority whenever vacancies happen from the representation of any state (Section 2, Clause 4,). Madison provides it is of great importance not only to guard one part of the society against injustice but also to guard the other side of society against oppression from its rulers (1788). Thanksgiving has become a huge traditional American holiday, then there`s independence day which celebrates the declaration of independence which are all national holidays and enacted in the constitution. Both the Iraq and the United States constitutions seek to serve their people who have different demographics. Each of the constitutions has the interests of the people at heart focusing on the different lifestyles and cultures of two different people. After analyzing both the constitutions and the research material which I have been through which some of the information is not included I find that both constitutions are very effective.
Scubadiving in India
Scubadiving in India Lifes biggest adventure is to explore the unknown and discover the undiscovered destination on this planet. Adventure lovers set out into the wild and face the challenges as they come. More than half of the earth is covered in water and the life underneath the sea is still undiscovered and unexplored. The adventure seekers that love water also adore the sport of scuba diving. The pleasures of floating in the deep blue seas or the thrill of diving under the ocean are unparallel joys. Scuba Diving is a start of discovering a whole new world of the underwater. Even in the history there have been cases where man has shown curiosity about the life existing in the sea. A very famous Indian epic Ramayan has a mention of the same. There are several imaginary creatures which are inspired by the creatures residing inside the sea. Scuba diving for that matter comes from Europeans who basically were taken in by the long coastline of India and the white sandy beaches. Snorkelling too is a great sport which is another discovery of the whites. The Indians too have started discovering the thrill associated with these water sports.Ã The Indian coastlines spread over more than a thousand kilometres. The Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal all surround India from three different directions. Hence it is not surprising to know that the country is made up of some of the most beautiful beaches of the world. The other more alluring things about the Indian coastlines and beaches is the mangroves, backwater, cliff peninsulas, Cluster of islands and the highlight- the marine life. There are several diving sites open to the tourists and several still remain unexplored.Ã The waves hitting the rocks and the splashing of the same on the coral reefs is one of the most stunning and exciting experience. The waters in the lagoons wash away the white sands with the water splashing on the shores and are dotted with palm trees. This is purely a sight of untouched nature and the one which should not be missed. The underwater is very different than what one view on land. Everything filters through the blue colour of the sea. It is colourful and vibrant. It is untamed and variously structured forming patterns which are interesting to observe. Corals in the ocean are the most attractive part of an underwater dive. They are of many varieties, colours and shapes. There are thousands of them living right under the sea! They range from small hydroids to tall sea fans, from languidly waving sea anemones to jellyfish. India has gained popularity as a scuba-diving and snorkelling destination of the world. Certain spots in the Indian subcontinent are worth visiting if one is a fan of scuba diving and other sports activities.Ã Havelock In Andaman and Nicobar islands is one of the most popular water sports adventure hotspot. This is one of the very few inhabited islands of this union territory. The place is scarcely populated and hence it still has the natural charm. The white sandy beaches tucked with palm groves along the shore and dotted with coral reefs, this place is one of the more popular destinations. It is spread in an area of 100 sq km and lies 54 km away from Port Blair which can be accessible through road, sea and even air. Havelock has many other water related activities going on like there is Radha Nagar beach on Havelock which has been voted as the best beach in Asia by Time Magazine. Havelock island is also a place where one can indulge in hiking, fishing, kayaking and sailing. Lakshwadeep The other most popular scuba diving destination in India is Lakshadweep. Organizational Development and Leadership Program Essay -- theory of ch
The journey of Gestalt consulting proved to be very insightful and enlightening. I initially worried that I would not be able to apply the Gestalt style of learning to my professional repertoire within organizational development (OD). However, the outcome was the exact opposite and Gestalt has truly been a useful OD tool acquired. What astounded me most was the chemistry and relevance to the skill that I was motivated to strengthen the most which is use of self. Concepts such as the paradoxical theory of change, cycle of experience, developing themes and polarities, and the unit of work all incorporate the use of self as a sufficient way of paying attention to and selectively sharing observations about what is happening in another person, a group, and an organization. Additionally these concepts were used to illuminate the path through resistance. According to Carlson and Sklarew (1995), ââ¬Å"work is grounded in a whole system and multiple levels of system perspective, paradoxical theory of change, and an appreciation for the power of phenomenological experience.â⬠(p. 3). During the class sessions we were introduced to the levels of system perspective. These include: intrapersonal, interpersonal, dyad or triad, and group level. These levels are defined by their boundaries. For example, the boundary in an interpersonal system is an individual exchanging with another individual and it is essential to note the exchange between the two. In my first case study I was able to illustrate the level of the system I observed which was an interpersonal system between me and my colleague, Angelo Martez. A boundary existed between he and I and communication was proven to be essential to make the exchange. Carlson and Sklarew (1995) also state that... ...tion itself. The most significant observation of gestalt consulting to me is that the process allows and requires both sides of the brain to be used. Observations can be intellectually made and interpreted, however those observations can be furthermore illustrated creatively to provide a visualize representation. Perhaps there can be a polarity framed in reference to my learning journey through gestalt: ââ¬Å"I observe that through my learning I was able to combine intellect with creativity just as two irrelevant colors can combine to introduce a beautiful new color. Kyra Joray Joray 1 Curtis English 10H 10 March 2014 The Serial Killer Mind ââ¬Å"We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.â⬠Bryan White once said. Basically White is saying, childhood is a very fragile state and as a kid youââ¬â¢re learning social norms by whatââ¬â¢s around you. Kids born into or raised around strange situations can affect the type of person they grow up to be. As an adult, you learn more about the logical way to act around other people and how your mind works. Certain experiences can alter the way a mind functions, and can result in a human lacking logical consent. Some people may seek guidance to control any urge they may experience while others chose to act upon their feelings. Once any violence is pursed, a criminal is born. A criminals mind makes different choices, ignoring whatever right or wrongs a normal person would know. Introduction In this report, we have chosen to analyze Dolfin, a Belgian company that has been producing fullflavoured chocolate bars since 1989. We will be analysing the exports of Dolfin, which nowadays is exporting to 22 countries around the world. The purpose of this report is to make an export audit in order to check if the company meets the necessary requirements. The main objective of this report is to build a SWOT analysis regarding the export of the company in order to propose development strategies linked to it. In order to do so, we have divided our work into 5 parts: first an analysis of the company, secondly we will focus on the international environment of Dolfin. After that we will move on to its export strategy before developing its export abilities. Finally, we will analyse Dolfinââ¬â¢s management of international operations in order to conclude with recommendations. The country we have chosen to explore is Germany, firstly because it is one of the biggest consumers of chocolate in the world1, and secondly because recently Dolfin has faced some issues in order to export to this country. Besides, Germany is Dolfinââ¬â¢s main exporting country. PONTILLON, J. ,( coordinateur),Cacao et chocolat : production, utilisation, caracteristiques, Paris , Editions TEC et DOC, 1998, p25. 1 ? 1 1 Presentation of the company 1. 1 History Two Belgian brothers ââ¬â Michael and Jean-Francois Poncelet ââ¬â who decided to follow in their fatherââ¬â¢s footsteps, created Dolfin in 1989. Both of them grew up with a fascination for the process of making chocolate. 2 ââ¬Å"Always bearing in mind this craftsman's approach, forcing the tool to meet the demands of quality, rather than the other way around, the sales have been rising steadily, amounting to 220 tonnes in the year 2000. The top-of-the-range bars and Neapolitan chocolate squares are now on offer in prestigious emporiums such as Selfridges in London, La Grande Epicerie in Paris, the KDW in Berlin and the Sony Plaza in Tokyoâ⬠. 3 1. 2 Philosophy4 For the master chocolate makers of Dolfin, chocolate is a passion. They dare to create the most unexpected combinations, to invent the subtlest harmonies, searching as a team for the finest ingredients selected from the best that nature offers. Their chocolate coverings are made of exclusive recipes, constant in quality and taste. Dolfin also offers a wide range of chocolate, from 32% cocoa in milk chocolate to 88% in the bitterest. Containing less sugar, less fat and more cocoa than traditional recipes, Dolfinââ¬â¢s products concentrate the nutritional and therapeutic qualities of chocolate. Simple and authentic, chocolate is stored naturally for a long time (one year without any preserving agent). 1. Nowadays, even though this activity has decreased, it still represents 25% of the turnover. As a small company, Dolfin is more flexible and can offer tailor made products. ââ¬â The Dolfin chocolate range offers chocolate bars of 30 and 70 grams, Gourmet squares, chocolate flakes and dark chocolate petals with flowers, Jacqmotte coffee chocolate bars. ââ¬â Tohi brand: this new Dolfinââ¬â¢s brand created in September 2008, is organic certified (controlled by Certisys) and fair trade (controlled by Max Havelaar). 1. 5 Activities concerned by the exportation ? 3 ââ¬â Dolfin chocolate bars are exported in more than 22 countries, often in specialised à « delicatessen à ». It is considered as fine chocolate, and it is sold in the most luxurious and prestigious place in trendsetterââ¬â¢s cities such as Paris (Lafayette), London, New York, Berlinâ⬠¦ ââ¬â The Tohi brand is only exported in health food shops to make sure people trust the brand before selling it in other shops. ? 4 2 Macro economic analysis 2. 1 LE PEST C analysis In order to understand clearly the environment in which our organisation works, itââ¬â¢s important to make a ââ¬Å"LE PEST C Analysisâ⬠. This one ensures Dolfin to adapt its strategy to each specific market taking account of the external environment. Legal aspects: There are 3 specific laws and norms: The HACCP norms in Belgium (ââ¬Å"Hazard Analyses Critical Control Pointsâ⬠) regulate the quality of food industry products by preventing, managing and controlling the production chain6. The ISO 22000 ââ¬Å"specifies requirements for a food safety management system where an organization in the food chain needs to demonstrate its ability to control food safety hazards in order to ensure that food is safe at the time of human consumption. â⬠7 This norm is applicable to all organizations, regardless of the size, which are involved in any aspect of the food chain and want to implement systems that consistently provide safe products. European Directive: The labelling and the presentation of chocolate and cocoa products are regulated by the E. C (directive 2003/13/EC and 2000/36/EC). On a global view, pre-packed foodstuffs (to be delivered to the final consumers) must comply with compulsory standards on labelling and advertising. On the packaging must appear: ââ¬â the name under which product is sold ââ¬â a list of ingredients ââ¬â the potential allergens ââ¬â the durability date ââ¬â the conditions for keeping ââ¬â the place of origin FOULON L. , Hygiene et technologie de chocolaterie, Bruxelles, CERIA, syllabus, 2009-2010, p. International Organization for Standardization, URL address: http://www. iso. org/iso/catalogue_detail? csnumber=35466 (viewed the 02nd of November 2009). 8 Idem 7 6 ? 5 Each of these indications must be written in an easily understood language (official language of the country of marketing), especially for the chocolate or cocoa derivatives, we should also mention if there is a use of vegetable fats9. Ecological With the growing concern about the environment, Dolfin has to take into account various environmental pressures. For several years now, it decided to cut its greenhouse gasses emissions and has become the first neutral carbon chocolate factory in Belgium. Moreover, a lot of specific materials are now forbidden and companies have to adapt. Due to that, Dolfin has made contracts with some firms specialized in ecological packaging. Political The political stability and the good relationship between Belgium and Germany are crucial. Economical: Globally, Germans are scared of the inflation level10. The sector is dependent on cocoa which is quoted on the stock exchange market and very sensitive to speculation. Moreover, itââ¬â¢s a seasonal product and there is a slack period from March to June. Sociocultural: Here is a growing concern for several years with healthy food and obesity which can lead to a change in food habits and the need of specific products (less sugar, more cocoa). Technological For all new projects, Dolfin has to think about environmental pressures. Competitivity: The competition in the sector is tough. Dolfin is a mid-upscale product and have to compete with multinational companies and other upscale product. Furthermore, in this sector, the competition is all the more intensive as products can be easily imitated. After launched a new one, competitors can copy the recipe without difficulty. ?EUROPA, Etiquetage, presentation et publicite des denrees alimentaires, URL address : http://europa. eu/legislation_summaries/consumers/product_labelling_and_packaging/l21090_fr. htm, (viewed 1st November) 10 GERMAN CULTURE, Germany in the World Economy, URL address : http://www. germanculture. com. ua/library/facts/bl_germany_world_economy. htm (viewed on the 15th of November).? 9 ? 6 3 Export strategy 3. The reasons of the companyââ¬â¢s international opening Dolfin didnââ¬â¢t really aspire to export in the beginning but it came out as a good solution. On the one hand, the brand (Dolfin and Tohi) can keep their own shops in Belgium in order to boost the sales and to improve the brand awareness among potential new customers. On the other hand, Dolfin can export its products on the international market, which appeared to be the best solution because Belgian chocolate has a worldwide good reputation abroad. The three main countries where Dolfin is exporting are: Germany, France and the United States of America. As explained before we have decided to focus on the German market. To understand the situation we will first have a look at the evolution and how they penetrated the market in 2001. In 2001, at the Ism fair (one of the most important fairs for chocolate makers) in Germany, German importers showed interest to import the companyââ¬â¢s products. We could say that Dolfin did not really have a strategy ready for that. They decided to export in order to satisfy this demand. They started with 2 distributors: Feinkost (confectionery) and Suesswaren (delicatessen). They had exclusive contracts with these 2 distributors. By 2005, according to Nathalie Trachte, one of the administrators of Dolfin, the interest for quality food in Germany is increasing. This means they prefer to pay more for high quality chocolate bars than eating a huge quantity of bulk chocolate. By that time, Dolfin realised they had no commercial strategy in Germany and that they had very few market shares. In 2006, the turnover of the German exportations dropped off by 15%. The reasons are first, because both distributors became competitors; secondly, it was due to the increasing number of new chocolate products on the German market. 1 In 2008, despite the crisis, the price of raw materials and the cultural fear for inflation in Germany, the exportations remained at a certain level. Moreover specialised shops decided to focus on bestsellers like Dolfin. However, the turnover kept on decreasing. In 2009, because of the very long summer, the season started a bit later. 11 Belcolade Conference, Salon de Paris 2009 (14th ââ¬â 18th October 2009) ? 7 Belgian export to Germany (code SH18-cacao)12 : (M â⠬) Chocolate and Cocoa Total export 2002 202,87 2003 199,60 2004 217,878 2005 240,18 2006 249,03 2007 278,49 2008 281,42 9. 402,07 31. 067,38 34. 037,69 35. 271,04 38. 451,03 38. 727,10 42. 605,73 This graph demonstrates an evolution in the Belgian exports of chocolate and cacao towards Germany between 2002 and 2008. This represents an increase of about 38% in 6 years. This means that Dolfin is acting in a growing market and that there are still opportunities to seize. 3. 2 The current exporting strategy Dolfin started to rethink the way it was exporting to Germany. In 2007, they decided to use the 5 Pââ¬â¢s theory: ââ¬â Product: launching new products and combining new flavours. Price: the price is higher than other standard chocolates as they sell quality products. However, it is not as expensive as premium chocolate. They didnââ¬â¢t want to change the price as they consider it as a fair one for a mid-upscale product. As we are talking about a niche product, changing the price wouldnââ¬â¢t be a suitable action to take. Communication by mail with Mrs Stas Marie, Service Evaluation et Strategie, Agence Wallonne a l'Exportation et aux Investissements Etrangers, 3/11/09 ? 12 ? 8 ââ¬â Place: Dolfin started to look for suitable places for their products in order to create a luxury, exclusive image. They decided to work with only one of the 2 distributors. ââ¬â Promotion: Dolfin decided to advertise, to promote, to organize tastings in shops, releasing more press articles, etcâ⬠¦ ââ¬â People: the question was: ââ¬Å"are they working with the right people and do they know them enough? â⬠As a response they increased the number of visits to distributors. In a nutshell, Dolfin is using direct exports selling its products straight to distributors. ? 9 4 Export abilities 4. 1 The export diagnosis 4. 1. 1 The production tool The production capacity Dolfin exports today 85% of its total production out of the Belgian territory. However, itââ¬â¢s only using half of its production capacity. The production adaptability Each exporting market has its own demand specificities and likings, thatââ¬â¢s why Dolfin pays special attention to analyze the product and make sure it will be suitable for most of the export markets. 4. 1. 2 The finance Dolfin gets its money mainly from the shareholders. They get subsidies from AWEX for the set up of the website, transport for fairs, stands, catalogues, etc. Dolfin doesnââ¬â¢t invest a lot in investigation. They actually wait for potential customers to come to them. 4. 1. 3 The products The Bio-physical characteristic Chocolate has 6 main enemies: humidity, temperature shocks, too high temperature, light, insects and smellsâ⬠¦ The transport should also prevent strong smells to reach the chocolate because the cocoa butter is very sensitive to the smells. Chocolate is a perishable commodity with an average life time going from 12 to 18 months (depending on the flavours). Therefore, it is essential to assure, on the one hand, a quick transportation and, and on the other hand, good transport conditions to hamper the chocolate to become white if the temperature is not suitable. The regulatory criterion Chocolate being an alimentary product, several norms and regulations are in use worldwide. As seen before, in Belgium we have the HACCP norms and companies also apply the ISO 22000 along with the European directives. ? 10 4. 2 Analysis of the German market 4. 2. 1 The Four C framework From the mid nineties to the late nineties, Germany was considered as a ââ¬Å"mass marketâ⬠as well as a very compressed ââ¬Å"price marketâ⬠. Indeed the Germans were known to be big consumers of milk chocolate buying low quality chocolate. However, in the late nineties, beginning of 2000, interest for quality increased and Germany became a connoisseur market. That is when Dolfin entered the German market. ââ¬Å"Marketing is a system for identifying and satisfying customer needs and wantsâ⬠¦profitably à »13. In order to do so, businesses have got to be customer oriented, which means they have to think in their point of view. In fact, the four P framework we analyzed previously will be now converted into Cââ¬â¢s: Product = Customer Solution â⬠¢ Quality products are of great interest as well as organic certified products as it is a growing trend. â⬠¢ Design and packaging of Dolfinââ¬â¢s products are attractive to target audience and they are original. For the packaging, they respect the European directives concerning languages that must appear on the label. Indeed, in the case of Germany, customers can read the ingredients and other type of information in German, but also in French, English and Dutch. Doing this, Dolfin can use the same packaging for Belgium or other countries where these languages are spoken. â⬠¢ 59% are loyal to their brand14. Price = Customer Value â⬠¢ Does price matter? For some, absolutely: Germans are the most price-conscious chocolate buyers (35%)15. But Dolfin suits its prices to the audience it targets, so there is no change TLATLI F. , Behaviors of the actors of the market, Bruxelles, ICHEC, slides 2009-2010. BARRY CALLEBAUT, Survey, 2008, URL address : http://www. barrycallebaut. com/56? group=,year=,lang=en,keyword=,page=1,release =4072,read=en (viewed 15th November) 15 idem 14 13 ? 11 needed regarding this. Furthermore, according to Nathalie Trachte: the costs related to the chocolate production donââ¬â¢t enable them to lower their price. 16 â⬠¢ Regarding the payments, they act different towards European and non-European customers. Indeed, customers inside Europe like Germany have to pay the first 5 orders in advance. After this period theyââ¬â¢ll get 30 days credit for each order. If the customer doesnââ¬â¢t pay after those 30 days, Dolfin wonââ¬â¢t accept any order from them. Outside Europe, another policy is applied in order to hedge risks. They wonââ¬â¢t deliver products, unless they have received the counter-part and this for every order. â⬠¢ Nathalie Trachte also pointed out the fact that prices or payments negotiations are difficult and long but once they are achieved, they do not discuss them again. Place = Convenience â⬠¢ In Germany, Dolfin sells its products through different channels. The company is represented in small specialized shops but also in high class supermarkets. Their geographical coverage is very large. Indeed, you can find Dolfinââ¬â¢s Chocolates almost everywhere but only in luxurious places. This is very important for the image of the brand. In Germany you find them next to competitors such as Domori, Valrhona, etc. â⬠¢ Concerning the transport of the goods, they use the Incoterms Ex Works, which means that ââ¬Å"the seller, in this case Dolfin, puts the goods at the disposal of the buyer in his accommodationsâ⬠17. As seen previously, the transport has to take into account the bio-physical characteristics of chocolate. Futhermore, we will analyze the reason of this choice in the SWOT analysis. Promotion + PEOPLE = communication â⬠¢ They especially emphasize on this concept. Indeed, satisfied customer is the best advertising. In terms of Pââ¬â¢s, promotion and especially people are of great importance since they allow Dolfin to establish a good dialogue between both their suppliers and customers. As analyzed previously, due to the crisis the company had to review its strategy and in order to do so, they focused their attention on communication. This permits Dolfin to be closer to their distributors and hence their customers. Personal interview with Nathalie Trachte, Administrator and Marketing responsible, Dolfin, Bruxelles, Belgium, 27th October 2009.? 17 HEINEN M-L. , Managing International Operations, Bruxelles, ICHEC, slides 2009-2010, p. 39. 16 ? 12 4. 2. 2 Satisfyer Dolfin has to know how to develop its customersââ¬â¢ satisfaction. They are looking for global satisfaction to have total happiness. Because it is not only at the point of sales, but most of all while consuming the product that the customer becomes satisfied, Dolfin is concentrating its efforts on the intangible elements, the most important part of satisfaction. Indeed, for them, launching new quality products with original recipes is important but not only: they also have to invent other elements around that product in order to differentiate it from the competition with the aim to bring customerââ¬â¢s satisfaction. Within this concept of intangible elements, we distinguish the basic ones and the dynamic ones. As regards Dolfinââ¬â¢s basic intangible, quality is of great importance. Thatââ¬â¢s why, they stress on good services and constant quality to deliver what they promised to the customer. To ensure that, Dolfinââ¬â¢s production methods conform to the strictest and most up-to-date standards of quality and cleanliness. One of the priorities of Dolfin is not only to make sure ingredients come from considered and concerned sources, but also to stay up-to-date in respect to the environment. In fact, Dolfin became the first CO2-neutral Belgian chocolate maker. Related to that quality, Dolfin is trying to create continuity. Indeed, focused on the future, they have to make sure the customer will remain loyal to them. To do so, they are also trying to launch and deliver their new creations on time as well on the market as to the customers. This can only work if Dolfin can trust its customers, but also it has to have good relationships inside and outside the company. Inside the company, everybody knows each other as they are only 15. Outside the company, they are working with suppliers and distributors they have known for a long time. For the dynamic intangible, we can say that it is a prestige product for which the customer knows he will spend more money than for a standard chocolate, but in exchange, he gets a good feeling eating it. ? 13 5 Dolfinââ¬â¢s SWOT analysis Strengths Weaknesses ââ¬â Organic and Fair-trade Brand : Max Havelaar & ââ¬â Organic:? ifferent production schedules ââ¬Å"Organic farmingâ⬠certified ââ¬â Packaging : language, experience, resistance and traceability ââ¬â Respect of sanitary rules: A. STIGSET M. , German Chocolate Market Is `Saturated,' Association Head Says, URL address : http://www. loomberg. com/apps/news? pid=20601100=aosOXeX9FzD4=germany (viewed 17th November 2009) 19 MERCIER, J. , la tentation du chocolat, Belgique, Editions Racines, 2007, p82-101. 18 ? 14 Strength: ââ¬â Their packaging is the same for Belgium as for Germany because it is written in 4 languages. Besides, the experience in packaging is due to their first activity in the chocolate business, in which they were making private label range products with Dolfin chocolate in it. They are very conscientious regarding traceability. Therefore, every packaging has a batch on it. Within their new export strategy, they focus on the promotional aspect. Indeed, Dolfin organises tastings, workshops â⬠¦ to attract the customer in an original way. ââ¬â The production capacity not being fully used, the company could increase the production without spending too much money on new machinery. Consequently, the company could raise its production capacity very quickly and respond faster than competitors to an order. ââ¬â In most cases, Dolfin doesnââ¬â¢t organize the transport. They use the Incoterms Ex Works. This allows them to focus on their production and not on transport issues. Besides, their customers (importers) are used to transport and know better how to do it. Nevertheless, Dolfin sometimes recommends a transport company to its customers. ââ¬â In 2008, Dolfin took the initiative to reduce its emissions of CO2 by 15%. Moreover, they took part in a project in Rajasthan to offset their remaining CO2 emissions20. That way, Dolfin became the first CO2 neutral company of Belgium. Weaknesses: ââ¬â Having an organic and fair-trade brand does include some disadvantages. Firstly, the production schedule will have to be modified in order to prevent contamination between both conventional and organic production. Secondly, Max Havelaar (fair trade) and Certisys21 (organic) check the production to make sure it is worth its organic and fair-trade certification. ââ¬â The disadvantage of an Ex Works system is that customers may want a full service. However, Dolfin sometimes makes exceptions for some customers. Opportunities: ââ¬â There is a growing demand for higher-quality dark chocolate in Germany22. Germans are becoming connoisseur and prefer quality. DOLFIN, Environnement, URL address: http://dolfin. be/index. php? lang=En=philosophie (viewed the 20th November 2009).. 1 CERTISYS, Organic Guarantee ââ¬â Certisys, URL address: http://www. tohi. be/En/home. php? lang=En (viewed the 16th of November). 22 STIGSET M. , op. cit. , p. 12 20 ? 15 Threats: ââ¬â The cocoa is quoted on the stock exchange in Pounds per ton. This means this raw material is very sensitive to speculations. Furthermore, the production of cocoa depends on the weather, the climate previsions (droughts, floods, p lants diseasesâ⬠¦) but also the political situation in the producing countries. 23 In addition to that, other raw materials are also quoted (milk powder, sugarâ⬠¦ ). As regards the profit of the company, it is inked to the purchase of raw materials because the cocoa price is very volatile. Unfortunately, a price increase cannot fully be rejected on the client, and the company has to bear the burden of this problematic situation. ââ¬â A good cash flow management is of great importance. It is capital to get paid from customers before paying suppliers. Therefore, Dolfin has to manage well its purchases and sales cycles: they need to have a positive net working capital. ââ¬â In the chocolate sector, we observe a lot of copying of both the packaging and recipes. Indeed, during fairs for example, it is common to spy on the competition. Therefore, industrial companies copy the ideas of smaller chocolate makers. ââ¬â Recently, because of the crisis, the bankruptcy of a big customer has consequences on the financial situation of Dolfin. 23 PONTILLON J. , op. cit. , p. 1.? ? 16 6 Recommendations In order to propose recommendations, it is of interest to analyze the history of the current export strategy of Dolfin. We have seen that in 2001 Dolfin started to export to Germany on the demand of two German importers. In fact, Dolfin didnââ¬â¢t plan to export at that time and they didnââ¬â¢t develop any export strategy in order to do so. They just did it, and, until 2007, business went good ââ¬â sales and turnover increased every year. But in 2007 things went on differently. Dolfin started to loose market shares, and business didnââ¬â¢t go on better in 2008. Starting from that point, we are going to build our recommendations. By interviewing Nathalie Trachte, administrator and manager of the marketing department of Dolfin, we tried to find out the reasons of the current situation. Out of the discussion appeared two essential facts: the competition on the German market has strongly increased and Dolfin is facing distribution problems. . 1 Competition on the German market As developed previously in the cross-cultural analysis, we have to think and act in terms of customer solution and not the other way around. Recent surveys of Barry-Callebaut24 reveal some figures about the German chocolate consumers. Here are some interesting conclusions: ââ¬â 60% prefers milk chocolate ââ¬â only 37% consumes dark choc olate (less than all other Europeans) ââ¬â German consumers are especially keen on change: 25% of German chocolate lovers surveyed regularly try different types and flavours. Among a trend towards premium chocolate, original, organic and fair trade chocolates are becoming increasingly popular. To be able to offer customer solutions to the German consumers, we would recommend: ââ¬â to increase the amount of milk chocolate products it offers. For example, currently, only 5 out of the 17 flavours of the chocolate bars of 70 grams are made with milk chocolate. ââ¬â to develop the marketing around Tohi. Indeed, as fair trade and organic food become more popular on the German market, we shall respond to this demand. This should be done through smart advertising. As we noticed before, Germans are sensitive to good quality products and keen to change 24 BARRY CALLEBAUT, op. cit. , p. 11 ? 17 as mentioned above. Therefore, it is of great importance to increase the customerââ¬â¢s awareness regarding the combination of quality ââ¬â organic- and fair trade, with a particular stress on the quality of Tohiââ¬â¢s product. With these 2 recommendations we hope to respond to the problem concerning the increase in competition. 6. 2 Distribution problems To address the second problem relating to the distribution, we shall focus on ommunication: ââ¬â We believe that frequent meetings between distributors and Dolfinââ¬â¢s employees would improve the established dialogue. Indeed, by doing this, they can share the knowledge concerning Dolfin range of products, and also the philosophy and strategy of the company. This would be particularly interesting when new creations are launched. This enables Dolfin to have a more coherent strategy and to achieve cohesion between Dolfin, distributors and customers. This way, the message the company is sending will be understood the right way. This might take time and money to be implemented, but it is worth a try. Letââ¬â¢s now focus on possible openings: First, hotel-catering trade (Horeca) is an attractive sector. In Belgium, the company has a partnership with ââ¬Å"le pain quotidienâ⬠. We believe it would be interesting to seek for similar cooperation in Germany. Secondly, since chocolate sales are high during specific events such as Christmas, birthdays, Saint Valentine days, mothers/fathersââ¬â¢ days, etcâ⬠¦ They should develop new/original ideas in order to respond to this demand. Thatââ¬â¢s why we came up with the idea that a package including flowers and chocolate could satisfy the specific demand during those special days. However, it is important to point out that it would be a difficult business to develop since laws and norms concerning foodstuffs are very strict. Finally, as the e-business is spreading all around the world, we thought Dolfin should develop a new strategy regarding this. On the one hand, it would enable the company to reach new customers and on the other hand, it allows being closer to their already loyal distributors/customers. Nevertheless, this implies hiring new employees who can manage properly both businesses and the creation of a new department. In addition to that, it is difficult, through the web, to be close to their clients and to establish a good communication. ? 18 7 Conclusion We have reached the end of our analysis and it is now time for us to conclude the work. Firstly, we want to thank Nathalie Trachte for her devotion and vital information. By doing this paper weââ¬â¢ve learned to think in terms of international market and export. Weââ¬â¢ve encountered 2 main problems during this assignment: the distribution and the competition on the German market. In order to tackle these, we have relied on the SWOT-analysis which we have built up, in order to develop recommendations. We do hope these will be suitable for Dolfin. For each of the 2 problems, we have tried to find possible solutions. In addition to that, we have also intended to be more creative, considering other possible market openings. Nevertheless, we have to bear in mind the fact that we are not professionals with an experienced background and we may have forgotten to take some aspects into account for the analysis. Furthermore, to make a relevant export audit, more time and more information, especially regarding the German market, would be required. ? 19 8 Bibliography 8. 1 Books â⬠¢ FOULON L. Legal RegulationsThe Ohio Revised Code sets the juristic standards by means of which a nurse is permitted to practice. Nursing laws are mandatory rules of behavior, and when broken can result in punishment, or as yet the loss of the RNs nursing license. The Ohio Board of Nursing is responsible for the licensing all nurses, as well as for ensuring that all nursing standards are maintained. As an RN it is vital that I understand the efficacious limits to my nursing practice. For example, I cannot legally rate medications, but I becomethe chest to administer medications under the supervision of a licensed physician. Always practicing within these specify limits assures safe patient care, nursing competence, and justification of the RNs license. The Development of PracticeThe Code of Ethics for Nurses was developed as a guide for carrying out all nursing responsibilities in a means consistent with lin eament nursing care and the ethical obligations of the profession (Fowler, 2010). I volition be discussing provisions seven, viii, and nine of the nursing code of ethics. Provision seven requires nurses to work to the promotion of the profession through exponentiation in the workplace, the maintaining of professional standards, and the participation in academic activities (Fowler, 2010). As an RN I work not contributed to the promotion of the profession through workplace involvement. I give up had numerous opportunities to join work relate committees, mentoring programs, or participate in the orientation of new RNs.Until now have refused based on the fact I am enrolled in school. I was latterly approached by my nurse manager and asked to help orient a new bod of RNs. I accepted the argufy and will start the orientation extremity in late September. Provision eight necessitates that all nurses work inter-professionally with other wellness care professionals, as well as wit h the community, to meet all health care needs on a municipal, federal, and world-wide level (Fowler, 2010). Nurses must possess an understand of both global health issues, as well as community health concerns. Working on a behavioral services unit, means that I a great deal deal with the homeless or tribute living populations of my city. As nurse I know that this patient population is to a greater extent susceptible to preventable communicable diseases. I work hard to encourage any patients who either homeless or last in local shelters to take utility of the hospitals flu and pneumonia vaccines. My effort in this arena helps maintain public and personal health, as well as prevent the penetrate of communicable diseases. Provision nine dictates that the wide nursing profession and all of its associations are accountable for up prop the integrity of the profession, the promotion of nursing values, and influencing social course of action (Fowler, 2010). It is vital that all nu rses hold themselves, their confederates, and other healthcare professionals to the utmost level of integrity and professionalism. I must admit that this I bring forth this provision to be the most challenge for me professionally. I have no caper holding myself to the upliftedest professional standards, but have a hard time holding my peers to the same standard of care. Recently, a peer chose not to medically address a patients incredibly high blood pressing. She reported to me that it was merely a side effect of the patients agitation, and assured me the high blood pressure was being controlled with an antipsychotic. I could not reckon what I was hearing, and immediately called a medical doctor for help. In retrospect I should have had the courage to both bide my peers lack of concern, as well as report her force out for the patients well-being. philosophical Beliefs school of thought is defined as, the intense and critical interrogative of beliefs and assumptions (Burkh ardt & Nathaniel, 2008, p. 27). Philosophy can be elevate divided into the philosophy of knowledge and the philosophy of practice (Burkhardt & Nathaniel, 2008). The philosophy of knowledge concerns suppositions regarding up functionness and disagreement, and the philosophy of practice concerns suppositions regarding behaviors and object lessons (Burkhardt & Nathaniel, 2008). Philosophical beliefs can affect they type of care that the patient eventually receives. If the nurse is not able to see the patient as an autonomous individual, care will ultimately be substandard. Part of my work as a psychiatric RN is lot patients deal with drug and alcohol dependance issues. Over the course of my nursing occupational group I have helped hundreds of patients go through drug detoxification. Because my department deals with a lot of recidivism, it is very easy for a nurse in my role assume that all drug addicted patients are causeless in maintaining sobriety. I must perpetually be on gu ard against evolution a jaded attitude closely my patients chances for maintaining his or her sobriety. If I assume the patient is not act to his or her sobriety I whitethorn give end up giving substandard care. Before the start of each shift I remind myself that each patient is an individual, and must not be judged based on my proclaim assumptions or personal experiences. How Ethics Influence Nursing PracticeEthics is a moral philosophy, a deliberate opinion of right and wrong (Naman, Nystrom, & Eriksson, 2012). Two ethical theories cerebrate to nursingare utilitarianism and deontology. The theory of utilitarianism believes that all ethical decisions should be based on the greatest benefit to the greatest number of people, and theory of deontology believes that all ethical decisions should be based on what is best for the individual person (Burkhardt & Nathaniel, 2008). Nursing values include kindness, truthfulness, fairness, discretion, independence, loyalty, and nonmaleficen ce (Burkhardt & Nathaniel, 2008). The RNs understanding of her own personal values is required for the saving of tone care, because the art of caring manifests itself as a personal value (Nasman, Nystrom, & Eriksson, 2012).As a psychiatric RN on an acute behavioral unit I frequently care for the underserved population of my community. just about of my patients have a history of fury against peers, are uninsured, homeless, or abused. Caring for this grumpy section of society can be challenging to say the least. It is necessary that I as the RN approach each patient as an individual merit of kindness, patience, and honesty. This approach treats each patient with the rate and dignity he or she deserves. On several occasions my patients have told me that I cared for them better than their own parents.
